A non-peer-reviewed study published on October 1, 2020, says 'this model helps to explain the wide variation observed globally in seroprevalence and cumulative fatalities and raises the possibility that the proportion of people already exposed may have exceeded herd immunity threshold (HIT) in certain regions.'

This study found HIT can be lowered by the existence of a fraction of the population who are unable to transmit the SARS-CoV-2 virus, whether they are effectively segregated from the general population or mix randomly.

Announced on October 5, 2020, nearly 30,000 volunteers will take part in post-registration trials of the EpiVacCorona coronavirus vaccine developed by Russia's Vector State Research Center of Virology and Biotechnology, the press service of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing told TASS.

A new study published by Clinical Infectious Disease on October 3, 2020, indicates the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus survives on human skin for up to 9 hours. This extended survival time on human skin may increase the contact-transmission risk of SARS-CoV-2 compared to other viruses.

However, these researchers found appropriate hand hygiene is highly effective at neutralizing the coronavirus. SARS-CoV-2 found in the mucus/medium on human skin were completely inactivated within 15-seconds by ethanol treatment.

The NBC Sports announcers were "compelled" by California officials to wear masks throughout their "Sunday Night Football" telecast, reported The Hill on October 5, 2020. “No, we are not auditioning for the ‘Masked Singer,’” Al Michaels joked at the top of the broadcast. “Santa Clara County officials have compelled us to wear a mask during the game and so that is the story.”

The White House physician Dr. Sean Patrick Conley finished a press briefing on October 5, 2020, regarding the US President's health status and is being 'hammered over his invocation of HIPAA to refuse to answer some questions'. There is a contradiction in what information was revealed and what information was withheld. The only legal basis would not be HIPAA, Tweeted @JonathanTurley, the Shapiro Chair of Public Interest Law at George Washington University.

'Section 45 CFR §164.508 of the HIPAA law which was passed in 1996, stipulates that all uses and disclosures of protected health information (PHI) require an authorization to be obtained from a patient before information prior to any disclosure. A patient can be selective in PHI disclosures.'

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published a website change on October 5, 2020, which states 'There is evidence that under certain conditions, people with COVID-19 seem to have infected others who were more than 6 feet away. These transmissions occurred within enclosed spaces that had inadequate ventilation. Sometimes the infected person was breathing heavily, for example, while singing or exercising.'

Under these circumstances, scientists believe that the amount of infectious smaller droplets and particles produced by the people with COVID-19 became concentrated enough to spread the virus to other people, says the CDC.

A study published by The Lancet on September 28, 2020, suggests that environmental contamination leading to SARS-CoV-2 transmission is unlikely to occur in real-life conditions, provided that standard cleaning procedures and precautions are enforced. These data indicate the coronavirus transmission through inanimate surfaces is less frequent than hitherto recognized.

In a video posted on YouTube on October 2, 2020, Sergei Sobyanin, the mayor of the Russian Federation's capital city of Moscow stated: 'Moscow could receive bulk shipments of Russia’s coronavirus vaccine by the end of 2020, while the vaccine continues to undergo final clinical trials. Around 6,000 volunteers and 600 medics have been inoculated with the Sputnik V vaccine in Moscow as part of post-registration, double-blind trials.

As of October 5, 2020, Moscow employers are required to transfer 30% of their employees to remote work through October 28, due to the city's accelerating coronavirus situation.

And, in accordance with the recommendations of the Russian Ministry of Health, Sobyanin said COVID-19 outpatients in Moscow will receive the antiviral drugs "Areplivir" and "Coronavir", which are versions of Avigan.

After rapid investigation, we have identified that 15,841 cases between 25 September and 2 October were not included in the reported daily COVID-19 cases.'

Brodie added: 'If you have tested positive you must self-isolate immediately for at least 10-days from when your symptoms began and we urge everyone who is contacted by NHS Test and Trace to provide details of their recent contacts.'

Canada's Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam posted on message on Twitter on October 3, 2020, saying 'Canada is running out of time to prevent a major resurgence of COVID-19, with Ontario and Quebec continuing to report excessive numbers of cases. And, diagnostic labs across Canada continue to test for the SARS-CoV-2 virus at a high rate, with an average of over 71,000 people tested daily and which produced a 1.8% positivity rate last week.'

'Public health #TestandTrace remains vital, but without ALL OF US making hard choices now, keeping up with layers of personal protection at all times and #DownsizeYourBubble, it won’t be enough to prevent a large resurgence,' continued Dr. Tam Tweet.

There have been 162,659 cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Canada, including 9,409 fatalities during 2020.

Innovative scientists have accelerated the clinical trial process to develop COVID-19 preventive vaccine candidates. The vaccine development landscape includes innovative platforms such as nucleic acid (DNA and RNA), virus-like particle, peptide, viral vector (replicating and non-replicating), recombinant protein, live attenuated virus, and inactivated virus approaches.

However, as of October 4, 2020, the U.S. FDA has not approved any preventive or therapeutic vaccines for use against the newly identified SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

An updated listing of vaccine candidates is published on this webpage.
