Innovative scientists have accelerated the clinical trial process to develop COVID-19 preventive vaccine candidates. The vaccine development landscape includes innovative platforms such as nucleic acid (DNA and RNA), virus-like particle, peptide, viral vector (replicating and non-replicating), recombinant protein, live attenuated virus, and inactivated virus approaches.

However, as of October 4, 2020, the U.S. FDA has not approved any preventive or therapeutic vaccines for use against the newly identified SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.
