The UK Secures 60 Million Vaccine Doses For €470 Million
The UK Government has secured a supply of 60 million coronavirus vaccine doses at a cost of €470 million, with options over another 130 million doses between 2022 and 2025, announced Valneva SE on September 14, 2020. Valneva is a specialty vaccine company based in France.
U.K. Business Secretary Alok Sharma commented in a press statement: “This new agreement could help us vaccinate millions of people across the country, as well as help create a UK vaccine manufacturing facility (Scotland) to speed up access to a potential COVID-19 candidate and boost the country’s resilience against future pandemics.”
The VLA2001 vaccine candidate is a Vero-cell based, highly purified inactivated vaccine that leverages Valneva’s well-established platform for IXIARO, its vaccine approved for active immunization for the prevention of Japanese encephalitis.
