The World Health Organization (WHO) Weekly Epidemiological Update published today offers an overview of the global, regional, and country-level COVID-19 pandemic.
As of February 22, 2023, the WHO reported nearly 5.3 million new cases, and over 48,000 deaths were reported in the last 28 days (up to February 19, 2023), a decrease of 89% and 62%, respectively, compared to the previous 28 days.
As of mid-February 2023, over 757 million confirmed cases and over 6.8 million deaths had been reported globally since the COVID-19 pandemic began in late 2019.
The WHO Director-General announced on January 30, 2023, that the (COVID-19) event continues to constitute a public health emergency of international concern.
