92% Decrease in COVID-19 Cases

The World Health Organization (WHO) today reported over 6.7 million new COVID-19 cases and over 64,000 deaths were reported in the last 28 days (16 January to 12 February 2023), a decrease of 92% and 47%, respectively, compared to the previous reporting period.
At the country level, the highest numbers of new 28-day cases were reported from Japan, China, and the United States of America.
As of February 12, 2023, the WHO reported over 755 million confirmed cases, and over 6.8 million deaths have been reported globally.
In the region of the Americas, in week #6, there was a -8.3% decrease in cases and -12.2% decrease in deaths reported compared to the previous week.
At the subregional level in the Americas, COVID-19 cases and deaths decreased in all four PAHO subregions.
