Indonesia Approves China-Produced COVID-19 Vaccine

Reuters reported the Republic of Indonesia had approved Sinovac Biotech’s COVID-19 vaccine CoronaVax for use in the elderly. Wiku Adisasmito, a spokesman for the Southeast Asia country’s COVID-19 task force, confirmed the approval letter's authenticity.

Additionally, Sinovac announced on February 6, 2021, that the CoronaVac vaccine had been approved for use by the general public by China’s medical products regulator.

This approval was influenced by a study published by The Lancet on February 3, 2021, which indicates 'the CoronaVac is well tolerated and immunogenic in healthy adults aged 60 years and older, and neutralizing antibody responses to live SARS-CoV-2 are not reduced in this population. However, further studies of the effectiveness of this vaccine for the prevention of COVID-19 in older adults are needed.'
