A new study published by the U.S. CDC on September 11, 2020, found going to locations that offer on-site eating and drinking options were associated with increased COVID-19 positivity. And adults with positive SARS-CoV-2 test results were approximately 2x as likely to have reported dining at a restaurant than were those with negative SARS-CoV-2 test results.

This new finding and several previous studies, such as from the Mayo Clinic, indicate that when eating out during the coronavirus pandemic, selecting an outside table is a healthy choice.

On September 6, 2020, the CDC updated its recommendations for restaurants and patrons on innovative tactics to reduce the spreading of the coronavirus.
