Eastern Pennsylvania Seniors Significantly Suffered From COVID-19
As of May 17, 2020, the state of Pennsylvania Health Department has reported more COVID-19 disease fatalities over age 100 than under age 45.... and more fatalities over age 95 than under age 60.
And, nursing homes and assisted living facilities currently account for more than 68% of all coronavirus-related fatalities in Pennsylvania, with 3,086 long-term care residents fatalities. With eastern Pennsylvania reporting the majority of cases.
Unfortunately, at the time of this reporting, approximately 38% of death records in Pennslyvania did not include comorbidity data. While medical certifiers are encouraged to include comorbidities that significantly contributed to the death, medical certifiers often underreport comorbidity data in Pennsylvania.
