Norway's COVID-19 Vaccine Deliveries Delayed

The Norwegian Institute of Public Health (MIPH) released a statement on January 15, 2021, indicating the Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty COVID-19 vaccine shipments would be reduced for a period ahead, reported CNBC. The NIPH explained the temporary reduction in vaccine deliveries was “connected with an upgrade of production capacity. Furthermore, the temporary reduction would affect all European countries.

Germany-based BioNTech and New York-based Pfizer developed the Comirnaty (BNT162b2) vaccine to prevent severe COVID-19 disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. Comirnaty is a nucleoside-modified RNA formulated in lipid nanoparticles and encodes an optimized SARS-CoV-2 full-length spike protein antigen.

The U.S. FDA issued an emergency use authorization for the experimental Comirnaty vaccine on December 11, 2020.
