Breastfeed Milk Does Not Transfer Competent-Coronavirus

Since the pandemic started in 2019, there has been extensive concern that the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus may be transmitted to infants by breastfeeding. Data from a small study, published by JAMA on August 19, 2020, 'suggest that SARS-CoV-2 RNA does not represent replication-competent virus and that breast milk may not be a source of infection for infants.

Furthermore, when control samples spiked with replication-competent SARS-CoV-2 were treated by Holder pasteurization, no replication-competent virus or viral RNA was detectable.
