FDA Warning: Certain Hand Sanitizer Products Can Be Toxic

The U.S. FDA warned consumers and healthcare professionals on August 12, 2020, about certain hand sanitizer products that are labeled to contain ethanol or isopropyl alcohol, but have tested positive for 1-propanol contamination. Not to be confused with 2-propanol/isopropanol/isopropyl alcohol, 1-propanol is not an acceptable ingredient for hand sanitizer products marketed in the USA, and can be toxic, and life-threatening when ingested.
